Pleasures We Invite All To Enjoy Round Grove Golf & Country Club The Round Grove Golf & Country Club is located one half-mile northwest of Greene on 50 acres overlooking the scenic Shell Rock River. This beautiful, par 36, nine-hole golf course has provided recreation for the Greene area since 1934. Facilities also include tennis court, playground, and recently remodeled clubhouse. This recreation center was made possible in 1965 through the generous donors, W. H. Buchholz (1872-1939) and wife Etta (1873-1963). Their deep sense of community responsibility, the welfare of our youth, our schools, our religious institutions and continuing progress of the community was consummated in this gift for the enjoyment of future generations. William Buchholz, together with Henry Dralle, founded the department store on the corner of Traer and Second Street. It remains in operation today as Dralle's Department Store, with third generation Dralles in charge. Camping Camping is available in Conservation Park near the swimming pool, along the west side of the Shell Rock River, Greene, Iowa and also at Camp Comfort, four miles south. Both are located on the Shell Rock River bank, and have electrical hookups, shelter houses, picnic tables and boat ramps. The Butler County Conservation Commission maintains both. Many services offered in our new, modern library Known throughout Iowa as one of the finest small town libraries in the state, the Greene Public Library houses over 17,000 books, cassettes, (both audio and video), magazines, art prints, and paperback books. Adult classes, arts and crafts displays, a public meeting room, a video camcorder, a FAX machine, and computers for public use are just a small portion of the many services offered at the Greene Public Library. The Library Teen Board was the first of its kind in Iowa and has done presentations for many library conferences. The Shell Rock River The Shell Rock River in Greene offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities, including a four mile stretch of clear channel for water skiing, one of the longest unimpeded stretches of river within Iowa.
